Spooky House
The state took over the land after the horrible events that took place at that home in the forest. The 2 story house was left to be taken over by nature, and the rest of the wild land of the uninhabited, gargantuan forest. Though it had been sixty years since the murders happened, the memory of them is still fresh in the minds of the elderly people of the nearby town of Northfield. The real story is that the suspect in the crimes got away with it, he was never found. But the legend and myths of the tale tell a different story, a more appealing story in the minds of teenagers that come to the house in the woods for a thrill. Legend has it that the murderer still lurks the woods, and visits the house in which he committed his crimes. The residents of Northfield are said to hear the screams every October, even though the house is 2 miles into the woods. Although the old dirt road to the house had been blocked sixty years ago and new trees have risen up, many kids still find a way to the house. As for me, I have even found the house. Last fall, on a chilly October evening, I and two friends, Bo and Clif, had ventured into the forest seeking a thrill for Halloween. As we maneuvered through the forest we finally came upon the house, actually coming upon the gate first that the state had put up to prevent kids like us from entering. The gate was impenetrable for the most part, besides the east corner of the property, on the left side of the house. As we ducked through the hole in the fence we saw exactly how the state left it. They removed nothing. The 1948 Packard Deluxe still sat in the front yard, rusted and useless with windows surprisingly still intact. The house sat, dead, and also in surprisingly good shape after all these years. The lack of leaves on the tree and the effect that time had on the house made everything in the picture look gray, and daunting. Observing the house and walking the grown over yard, we saw the doors boarded up. The porch still had its roof, and none of it sagged. Though the rickety old house had been left for decay in the forest. The forest wasn't having the greatest effect in the destruction of it. And like the memories of the events that happened are still fresh in the minds of Northfield residents, so too does the house stand in its prominent haunting manner in the depths of the forest.
