Rugged yet refined, it's America's pastime.
A six word memoir on a sport that has taught me so much more than I had bargained for. Who could have thought that a fun game could teach a man life lessons that he will never forget. A game in which men throw 5 1/4 ounce balls at or towards each other at 100 mph, expecting the recipient to hit it with a round bat. A game where there are written rules, and (alomst) more importantly, unwritten rules. A game of inches. A game of slanguage. A game of dirt, dust, blood, sweat, grit, passion, love, power, focus, and tears. A game of respect. Rugged enough to break a man down physically and tear him apart mentally yet more refined and perfect than any other sport imaginable. From the scars left from sliding on the aglime to the straitness of the 340 foot lines to the foul poul. From the power and force unleashed on the small sphere coming from 60 1/2 feet away to the smoothest sailing fly ball over the Green Monster or Wrigleys ivied walls. Baseball has its rugged edges, without a doubt. It doesn't lack in its refined ways of beauty either. There's a reason this sport is called America's Pastime.
